Top Tapas in Tampa

I’m not sure why it took me so long to go, but I recently had dinner at Bulla Gastrobar and LOVED it. Bulla, pronounced “boo-ya”, is a Spanish tapas restaurant in Soho. It opened October 2017, and added a rooftop “Luna Lounge” in February of this year.

My Favorites

The night began with an incredible cheese & charcuterie spread, and although there are lots to choose from, I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to go to a Spanish restaurant and not order manchego cheese and Serrano ham.

The tapas just kept coming, and I wasn’t mad about it. We devoured everything that was put in front of us. Having worked at a local tapas restaurant in college, I was familiar with most dishes, but I had never heard of “huevos bulla”. It’s housemade potato chips, eggs, Serrano ham, potato foam, and truffle oil. You could put truffle oil on anything and I’d eat it, but this was unreal. Although it didn’t photograph well (perhaps due to the runny eggs it’s tossed in), believe me, you’ll want to try this when you go. And as another rule of eating at a Spanish restaurant, one must always get paella. This dish was packed with so much flavor! And across the board, each plate had great portions.

Luna Lounge

I can’t help but laugh a little whenever I hear about “rooftop bars” in Tampa. I’ve gone to a few that have been underwhelming, but Bulla’s Luna Lounge is the first place I’ve been to that actually had incredible views of the city! Even though it was just four floors up, you could see the entire Tampa skyline and beyond. The Luna Lounge is open Thursday – Sunday and offers a modified menu with great options. During dinner, I had the Lemongrass Collins (so good), followed by sparkling wine upstairs at the Luna Lounge (were you really surprised?).
