It’s no secret that America loves to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the holiday that recognizes Mexico’s victory over France in the 1862 Battle of Puebla (which has absolutely nothing to do with USA)… You can’t blame anyone for wanting to partake in it: it’s the one day a year to consume your body weight in tacos, queso, and margaritas and not feel guilty about it. I’ve outlined a few (cinco, to be exact) places to spend your Cinco de Mayo! You may notice a common trend between them all… none of them are Mexican. I truly think this is the key to having a great time on this holiday–you’ll probably wait a lot less time for your next margarita, and that’s really all that matters.
Flemings Prime Steakhouse: I was fortunate enough to attend Flemings’ media preview of its $100 Margarita this week, and it’s well worth every penny. If you want the opportunity to taste the craft behind 149-year aged Herradura tequila, and 100-year aged Grand Marnier, this cocktail is for you. As if that’s not enough, it’s served in a luxurious Baccarat crystal glass that you get to take home with you. Try it before it’s gone–this exclusive margarita will be available at Flemings locations nationwide from May 4 – 6!
Bizou Brasserie: Although France lost the battle in 1862, they are totally winning with Cinco de Mayo specials like this. Bizou, a French restaurant in Downtown, is having quite the fiesta on their patio. From 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM, there will be a $10 Build-Your-Own Margarita station, taco specials, free samples of tequila/rum, $6 house margarita specials, amazing nachos, and more.
Franklin Manor: Known for its legendary frosé, Franklin Manor will be feature frosé-ritas on Cinco de Mayo! On top of this, there will be several pop-up bars and special tacos/nachos available. P.S: although it’s not No-Shave November yet, there will be a “Stache for Cash” contest held too!
EDGE Social Drinkery: From 9:00 PM – 11:00 PM, EDGE (located on the 4th floor of Epicurean) will have a “complimentary, Cinco de Mayo inspired appetizer buffet featuring quesadillas, tostadas, ceviche, and tortas”. Drink your way into being the most interesting man/woman in the world with $1 Dos Equis, not to mention the amazing cocktail menu that EDGE serves up every night. While you’re at it–#treatyoself and book a room for the evening to avoid figuring out a way to get home that night.
The Attic Cafe: Despite what an “attic” traditionally entails, this spot boasts incredible views of Downtown Tampa. Be sure to check it out on Friday for food and drink specials, plus live music from Growler!
