Drink, Drank, Broke

Being social with friends can get expensive. Everyone comes home from their respective college towns in the summer and complains about drink prices at Tampa bars… Yeah, I’m talking to you, UF and FSU. Being here year round has helped me to learn the ropes of going out and not waking up with an empty checking account. And especially with this weather, there’s not much else to do these days… So here’s your cheat sheet for Tampa bar happenings.

Monday: Graffiti Junktion at USF challenges you to “All You Can Slider” for $10 unlimited sliders, and for just $5 more, you can have all the beer that your heart desires too (5-10pm). I’ve never heard of anything that is more college-budget friendly. Also, The Bricks Ybor has “Church of Nintendo” starting at 8pm every Monday where you can get drunk and play old Nintendo games. Amazing.

Tuesday: Tacos, tacos, and more tacos. Green Lemon has $2 tacos and $3 Coronas (in addition to their every day Fiesta Hour with discounted margaritas until 7pm). Start early here and the rest of your night is guaranteed to be a good one.

Wednesday: Go to Dubliner and pay $6 for a liter of any draft beer from 8pm-close. You’ll really get your money’s worth, considering that Dubliner has several strong beers on tap like Jai Alai and other craft IPAs. There are rotating live bands on their lantern-lit patio. It’s a nice change of pace from the usual Soho bars, and Wednesday is one of their most popular nights of the week.

Thursday: Hablo Taco in Channelside has “Thirsty Thursday” with $4 ritas and $2 drafts from 7pm-close. Yard of Ale recently started doing a “Country Night” special from 9pm-11pm. For $10, you get a red solo cup that entitles you to endless drinks for those 2 hours. But don’t forget to tip if you actually want to be served. If you’re still able to rally after that, then you can stumble across the street to MacDinton’s for $1 Miller Lite. Good luck.

Friday: The sink-or-swim style happy hours are no secret on Fridays in Tampa. MacDinton’s $10 all you can drink 6-8pm, then Hyde Park Cafe $10 all you can drink 8-10pm. If you want to avoid seeing half of your high school while out, start off at Anchor Bar in Davis Island for $6 liter drafts.

Saturday: There aren’t too many crazy specials on the weekend, solely because the weekend in itself is enough reason for people to come drink. However, Yard of Ale serves $10 liquor yards + karaoke. This is the perfect recipe for a memorable (or not) night.

Sunday: You’ve saved all this money during the week, so you can afford to splurge on brunch. Head to Oystercatchers for a $45 brunch that includes unlimited mimosas/champagne/bloody marys. Always say yes when there’s champagne involved. If that’s too much for you, Lodge offers 51% off for hospitality and has a pretty packed Sunday Funday. MacDinton’s has started hosting Sundress Sundays with 50% off drinks for ladies from open-8pm, so make your girlfriend buy drinks for the day (no, you don’t have to wear a sundress to get the discount).

Last but not least, there is actually a perk to all of this awful weather we’ve been having. Hablo Taco pours $1 Bud Light every time that it’s raining outside! Cue “I’ve got sunshine…On a cloudy day”.
